As with every new year, businesses are working out how to allocate marketing budgets for 2013. In todays technology driven world, your company’s website should be the first and leading piece considered when deciding where to spend marketing dollars.
The very first place most of your potential clients will go when deciding who is worthy of their time and money is the internet. Whether you are a multi-million dollar company or a start-up business, your website is your storefront, your first impression and your company image. Does your company website represent you and your company accurately? What makes a ‘good’ website?
A good website is one that tells the story of who you are and what you’re about with grace and sophistication, sending the message to the world about what sets your company apart from the competition. I’m taken by surprise when I find large, well-established companies that still have a cheap-looking “do-it-yourself” template website. An outdated, disorganized or ugly website can leave the visitor thinking a company is ‘out of touch’ or that it may be struggling to survive, while a good website can really impress!
At FirmDesign, we seek to understand what sets your company apart from its competitors in the market and who your company’s target audience is to build a website that sends the right message, your message, to the world. Allow FirmDesign to help make 2013 the year your competitors stand up and take notice! Contact FirmDesign for award-winning web design and Search Engine Optimization with proven results.

If you are starting an online store and you find yourself at a crossroads as to what your first steps should be, consider these options carefully before jumping in:
Open Source eCommerce
With options like osCommerce, Magento, and ZenCart available, getting a simple, bare-bones eCommerce site up and running quickly and affordably is fairly easy. Open source platforms are not as secure or flexible to customize as a custom system but do offer an entry-level approach to the world of eCommerce.
Custom Built eCommerce
Custom built eCommerce websites are typically more costly and time consuming to get up and running but the benefits typically outweigh the consequences. With a custom eCommerce system, your functionality and flow of the site is not dictated by a pre-built framework. You have the ability to decide how your visitors find your products, add items to their cart, check out, etc. There is also greater control of the appearance of the website, an important factor in convincing shoppers to stay on your website.

Now that the elections are over… I think 2013 is going to be a great year! We are seeing new businesses being started and old ones looking to rebrand.
Speaking of “rebrand”, does your company’s image look outdated? Does your logo look like it was done by your 8 year old? Check out our BRAND section of our site for examples of professional branding. After all, your image is typically the first impression you will make with your potential clients. This may be the difference of them calling your or calling a competitor.
Our original go live date for our new 2011 website was January 1… Well, we are a little late! The good news it’s because we’ve been busy. We are extremely excited about the new site and would love to get your feedback. Our goal is to have a page 1 google ranking for Atlanta Web Design. We’ll keep you posted on our search improvements. Is it time to redesign your site?
I had someone ask me recently where I find my inspiration for design and I found it to be a hard question to answer, not only because they were another designer who I didn’t know that I wanted to share the goods with but also because I find inspiration in so many places but I thought I would share a few that I think would be useful to companies and individuals looking to get ideas for their branding or company.
Friends of Type is one of my favorite places to get inspiration for custom typography, logo and branding design. Your typography can make or break a design and looking at examples of all the different type layouts on this site can strike up a million ideas for alignment, structure and even colors. Don’t steal ideas though, cause that ain’t cool.
One of the most common places I get inspiration from is interior and architectural design. Having clean structure is vital in print and web design. Good interior design tends to showcase great example’s of color palettes and could easily provide some idea’s for color options for branding idea’s. Architecture imagery can provide great examples of symmetry, patterns, and even color palettes as well. Seeking inspiration in places other than design magazines or books will most often lead to a more creative concept and could very well give you that different look that you are searching for.
Lastly I find inspiration in my other passions and daily activities, one of which is cooking. Food imagery is another example of a good source for color palettes. Watching cooking shows, reading magazines, recipe books and even being served food at a restaurant can strike up some inspiration.
Inspiration can be found in the most common places that you wouldn’t think to look. It never hurts to come in with some idea’s and a starting point with simple thing’s like color or type setting when starting to brand your company. We want all our idea’s to be as original and creative as possible when it comes to branding our clients and we all do thing’s differently but we do our best to seek out new inspiration and design processes to be the best.
So after doing a little research over the past week Firm Design has decided to join the world of Twitter. We will “tweet” as best we can to fit in amongst all the Twitter pro’s, so cut us some slack if we don’t start off with a bang.
You can follow us here if you have a Twitter account and if not set one up and join the rest of the world!
In my research of Twitter and its advantages for business and marketing I also realized that there are many ways that you and your business can improve your websites traffic on top of what our SEO services can already do for your website. With a few simple steps of setting up accounts with certain online networking solutions you can boost your traffic in no time. Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin are just a few to name but I also can’t express how much having a blog will help as well as giving your clients regular updates on what your company is doing whether you are making an important company statement or posting fun pictures of a company event. Just get out there and research because the internet is wide open and full of options!
